Owen started swimming as young child in South Africa. After moving to the United States in 1986 at the age of 14, he swam for United Poway Penasquitos Rancho Bernardo Swim Team (UPPR) where he competed in Junior Olympics. At that time he also swam for Mira Mesa High School competing in CIF Championships as well as playing water-polo.

At the age of 16 under the guidance of his mother Di Molenaar, he began teaching swimming lessons to small children. As the business developed, Owen helped the team become more competitive and worked with the Senior Group sending his swimmers to JO’s, Far-Westerns, Sectionals & Nationals. After working with the Senior Group for many years, Owen saw the importance of working with the younger age-group competitive swimmers and has produced some of the top swimmers in the Country.

Owen has won the Coach of the Year Award and been an integral part of Pacific Swim’s success.
